From the mouths of babes...

I'm not awfully proud, and I don't mind admitting that a lot of our toys, especially our outside toys, come from garage sales and hand-me-downs.  Still, I had to wonder this week, when the children decided to gather all the outside toys - yes, right down to every block, bucket, shovel and sandbox toy - and to pile them on the playground.  "It's all trash," they told me.
"And this is our trash truck."  How clever they are!  They took turns standing on the step and holding the yellow handles, just like the guys on our trash truck do.

From the mouths of babes...

Some of the boys were talking at snack time.
B said, "My cousin Colton is taller than me, he's 6!"
T answered, "Luke is 6 too, and he's tall."
B was impressed, "They're both 6, they're equal!"
T misheard him and was indignant,  "Evil?  Evil?  Luke's not evil!"

From the mouths of babes...

H.A. was playing outside, and grinned at Ms. Julie.  "This is the best life ever!" she said.

From the mouths of babes...

B.F. was putting all the dinosaurs into a "volcano" this morning, "So they can have a hot drink and a hot bath."

From the mouths of babes...

Z. asked me, “Why is Ms. Julie in charge?”  I told her Ms. Julie and Ms. Paula are in charge because we’re the grown-ups.  Thinking she would make the connection to adults being “in charge”, I asked, “Who’s in charge at your house?”  She thought just a second, and said, “I think my mom is.”

From the mouths of babes...

The kiddos were playing in the backyard, when B. told me, "I'm the leader of this team."  R. chimed in, "Yes, and I have to split up!"  Cute!

From the mouths of babes...

W.W. was enjoying the swings this morning, and told me, "Your house is like 6 Flags!"  Wow!

From the mouths of babes...

We were playing with dough one rainy afternoon, and L.  stuck 4 plastic flower stems into a lump of dough, and added a piece shaped like a hat.  He said he made an “abdominal snowman”.

From the mouths of babes...

L. has a special insect repellent that smells very different from the one the other kiddos use.  J. walked up to him outside, and said, “L., I like your cologne!”

From the mouths of babes...

Today one of L.’s happy thoughts was that his new duck egg might hatch soon. Then he changed his mind, “No, I forgot to water it,” he said.  Oh dear!  (He’s right actually, it is in an incubator, and does need water in the machine.)

From the mouths of babes...

At lunch B.F. told us that his family is going to move to California (we're in Texas.)  Then he clarified, "California is actually 15 feet away, right by Africa."

From the mouths of babes...

When we had our tornado drill for the month, we had all the kiddos in the half bath.  We gave the children stuffed animals and flashlights, and I went through the tornado kit to show them that we're prepared, just in case.  One of the kiddos said they were scared, and I said, "You don't need to be scared, because guess what we have?"   A little voice answered, "God?"

From the mouths of babes...

At lunch time one day, E.F. announced, “At my house, my daddy lets me eat like a dog!”

I checked.  Daddy adamantly denies this.

From the mouths of babes...

B. came in very excited.  “My daddy is going to give me five dollars!” she told me.  “Wow!  What for?” I asked.  “No.  Five dollars, not four,” she insisted.
